This year, as part of our Literacy focus at McKay, all of our teaching staff engaged in Professional Development with renowned BC educator, consultant, and literacy expert, Faye Brownlie.  Faye spent time planning lessons with us, modelling and co-teaching, and debriefing afterwards.  We considered and tried new teaching strategies, and observed the positive impacts they had on student engagement and joy in Language Arts lessons.  We continued to follow-up and meet with Faye, and tried some of the open-ended instructional routines in different curricular areas as well.  This learning for us was immediately impactful on student learning, and continues to be as we move forward, incorporating and evolving what we have learning.
