Identifying our Focus on Story
Our focus on story has emerged from many places, but especially from teacher inquiry. We have spent time in school professional learning groups, and with other schools' staff, considering how we can improve student outcomes in literacy, while also addressing other concerns such as anti-racism, and inclusion. We have reviewed our achievement data such as report cards, FSA assessments, school-wide reading and writing assessments, and analyzed where our students need support, but also strengths and the can build upon. We have also considered our needs as educators, and considered together about what supports and resources we need to move forward. By connecting all of these bits of 'evidence' we can see a meaningful path ahead- centred around our question: How can we use story to build empathy, promote anti-racism, foster inclusion, and develop our literacy skills?
