WAAG for Sept 12 - 16

We had an excellent start to the school year - and we are excited to announce that we have now placed all of our students in their classrooms for the 2022 - 2023 school year.

The process of creating classes begin in June the previous school year, and the process has been ongoing until today. A great deal of thought, reflection and collaborative planning goes into the setting of classes. Teachers, Educational Assistants and Administrators think deeply about which students will work well with others, the strengths and stretches of each child, and how they will best meet the social, emotional and academic needs of each child within a diverse group of students.

Thank you for your support, patience and understanding as we moved through this process this week.

McKay's Student Population is Increasing:

On Wednesday afternoon of this week, we received word from our District that we had many new students register for McKay over the summer and, as a result, we have increased from 10 to 11 classrooms/divisions.

The hard working and dedicated team of educators at McKay met extensively on Wednesday and Thursday to create a new organization that included these new students and a new division. We are happy to report that we have created 11 balanced and effective classroom groups that will allow all of our learners to be successful this year.

We will be hiring a new teacher next week:

You might remember that last year we increased from 9 to 10 divisions, and in the second week of school, we were able to hire Ms. Jessica Dong as the teacher for the new class. This year, we are now in the same process of hiring a new teacher for the Grade 3 and 4 students in Division 6. We are confident that, just as we did last year, we will be able to welcome, another talented and enthusiastic teacher to the McKay team. In the meantime, the students in Division 6 will be supported by Ms. Dong and Ms. Lam, who are current McKay teachers - until the new classroom teacher is hired.

To assist you with your planning for Monday, and for the coming weeks, please see the attached WAAG for Sept 12 - 16.

This document was emailed on Sept 9th to all families - along with a map for each class/division to use to enter and exit the school.
