Plans for Return To School - Now Scheduled for January 10th

Dear McKay Families,

Happy New Year to you. We thank our students and families for your patience as we prepare for a return to school, now scheduled for Monday, January 10th.

The additional week will allow school staff to review updated Health and Safety guidelines to help prepare for our return to school as outlined in our Superintendent’s letter to families sent on Friday, December 31st.

Also included in Superintendent Robinson’s letter was information about providing assistance to those families that include children of essential service workers, families of children with complex support needs and families with vulnerable learners that may require support.  Please see the information below:

No instruction will take place between January 4 - 7, however, schools will be open to provide supervision for a limited number of students such as children of essential services workers, and in particular health care workers, who do not have alternative childcare supports. If this applies to your family and you would like to make arrangements for your child to be at school next week, please reach out to your school principal. In addition, schools will be reaching out to families of students with complex support needs, as well as families with vulnerable learners who may require support.

Families whose children normally attend daycare are encouraged to contact daycare providers directly in order to determine whether their daycare will be operating next week.

If your child falls into one of the categories mentioned above they may attend school from January 4th - 7th.  Please understand that for any child attending the school this week, we are only able to provide supervision for a limited number of students and the school day will not resemble a typical day.

To help us prepare for students that require school supervision support from January 4th - 7th, please email me at lhurst@sd38.bc.ca by Monday, January 3rd at 1:00 pm. Please include a brief description highlighting the reason for having your child attend next week.

We look forward to having all our students back at school on Monday, January 10th.

Thank you,

Larry Hurst

Principal
